Music

I’ve been in love with music since the day I could form my lips so say words. Music is what initially drew me to entertain. At 5 years old, I was singing in the church choir.   By 7 I was inspired by a then young Whitney Houston and decided I wanted to be on stage. I picked up the cello at the same time and studied under the tutelage of various Suzuki method teachers and finally with  NSO’s 1st chair cello Sieve Lehznev.   I went on to study vocal solfegé with various teachers including opera Diva Virginia Alonso (Placido Domino, Pavarotti). I continued to play the cello in different youth and adult orchestras and quartets, while in college and after.

My independent singing career really started its path later in life by beginning to record a yet unreleased album titled “The B Project,” with the production input of Shannon Sanders (John Legend, India Arie, Eric Clapton, Eric Benet) DaWu (Yolanda Adams, Stephanie Mills) Reggie Reid (CeCe Winans, Virtue). My gospel, classical and Latin roots are infused to created a distinct, hip-shaking rhythm, yet lyrically prolific sound. To date, I’ve written, co-produced and completed 6 songs, one of which was included in electric violinist Ken Ford’s latest 2009 album and has received great airplay in Atlanta, Ga. While continuing to work on my debut album, I’ve performed in Europe on more than 12 stages (2006 & 2007) . I’ve performed throughout the United States as a solo performer and as a background singer for different up and coming artists. In 2008 I decided to take an undetermined amount of time away from music to reevaluate my sound, my writing and to focus on my culinary TV career.

However, music being my core and true passion, I was called back into the studio in late 2009. Most recently, I was asked to produce a singing commercial by Unilever brand,  I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, where I had to sing adapted lyrics to the 80′s hit “Turn The Beat Around.” The concept for the commercial was developed and shot in 4 days.

Unbeknownst to me until the night of, my commercial won, of which snippets aired during the premiere night of American Idol’s 9th season to a whopping 55 million viewers.

My goal is to complete my 1st album in 2010 and eventually write and produce an all Spanish language album.  Music is what keeps the world a happy place amidst all the turmoil.
